Director Alex Proyas and his cast of mostly white Egyptians represent Lionsgate's first attempt at establishing a post-Hunger Games franchise, but despite Proyas's legion of fans and the sexy thoughts of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau squaring off against Gerard Butler, there's a chance this epic set-up might be a non-starter at the box office. People still go to the movies over Oscar weekend, so we can scratch that idea; here, it could be more about negative associations about the aforementioned casting issues as well as a concepts (mortals vs. gods) that feels a bit out of fashion.
